Association of Housing Counselors
The Association of Housing Counselors (TAHC) is a membership organization of housing counselors and other professionals committed to promoting housing counseling. TAHC's mission is to increase the availability of resources and training opportunities for counselors, thereby increasing the number of qualified counselors and enhancing the quality of service delivery to clients.

It certifies Housing Counselors in North and South Carolina. TAHC was originally organized in 1994 in North Carolina as an outgrowth of a housing counseling task force that was convened to develop a housing counseling training program. Participants who successfully complete two 20-hour classes and pass the two exams are designated as certified. From its inception, more than 2000 persons have attended Tracks A and B. There are currently more than 400 individuals with the active certified status providing services across the Southeast. TAHC also provides continuing education opportunities to enable certified Housing Counselors to maintain their two-year certification.

Certification Process
TAHC's Certification program ensures basic proficiency in housing counseling concepts and techniques. Certification requirements include participation in the Basic (Track A) and Advanced (Track B) Housing Counseling Workshops and successful completion of written certification exams for both Tracks. Certification trainings are offered four times a year. For more information on certification and upcoming training schedules, please contact Felicia Jordan.

Continuing Education
In today's housing market, it is important for housing counselors to stay abreast of changes in the industry and to continually strengthen their skills. To that end, TAHG has implemented a continuing education program that enables counselors to renew their certification every two years. To maintain certification, Housing Counselors are required to take 32 hours of continuing education over a two-year period. Sixteen of those hours must be TAHC sponsored continuing education workshops. Opportunities for continuing education hours are provided periodically by other partner organization conferences. Many members take advantage of the continuing education credits offered by attending workshops at the Annual Conference.
