Project Description The expansion of Charlotte and the Lake Norman area over the
last two decades has resulted in the rapid growth of Mooresville, NC.
Curlin Commons was developed by TAHG and our co-developer, the Catholic
Diocese of Charlotte Housing Corporation, to address the area's need for affordable housing for seniors. Curlin Commons is
nestled on a quiet wooded 10 acre site minutes from downtown
Mooresville. Curlin Commons makes significant strides to be good
stewards to our residents and to the environment by incorporating green
features into the building and site. |
Green Features: *
Energy Efficiency measures like high performance windows, Energy Star
appliances, radiant barrier roof decking, efficient insulation result
in utility savings for residents
* Preserving a large portion
of the site’s existing trees protects an onsite stream as well as
serves a habitat for area birds and wildlife
* Recycling of construction waste significantly reduced the amount of waste sent to the landfill
* Use of durable materials means the building will be easier to maintain and stay affordable for years to come |
EarthCraft Multifamily is a regional green building program
available in the Southeast that serves as a blueprint for healthy
comfortable homes that reduce utility bills and protect the
environment. EarthCraft independently verifies that green measures are
incorporated into projects. Curlin Common is the first affordable
multifamily building in North Carolina to receive EarthCraft
certification. A portion of the costs to make Curlin Commons
green where covered through a grant from The Home Depot Foundation. |
